Uniting for Quality of Life -First Stewards

The symposium will bring together four regional panels; one each for the West Coast states; Alaska; the U.S. Pacific states and territories; and the Great Lakes, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Gulf of Mexico states. Each day will include opening and closing cultural ceremonies and one or two regional panels. On the second day, a nationally recognized keynote speaker will discuss how coastal indigenous cultures can become more directly engaged in U.S. climate change policy formulation. On the last day, the symposium witnesses — those recognized for their knowledge of indigenous culture, language and tradition — will share their insights on how coastal indigenous cultures and the nation as a whole are being affected by, and will need to adapt to, our changing climate.

First Stewards is being held in tandem with the Living Earth Festival that will run through the weekend. Living Earth Festival will also feature aspects of the Pacific Islands culture carried forward from the symposium.

Women Senators, Tribal Leader Discuss Importance of VAWA

487656_10151206195421887_1695623245_n

WA Senators have provided great leadership, as has Tulalip Vice-Chair Deborah Parker. Time for a thank you phone call, plus a call to your US Representative — their deliberation comes next. Pass VAWA with tribal provisions intact!

from Deborah Parker-
Attn. friends, family and VAWA supporters: We need your help! ON MONDAY, please call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask the operator to connect you to your Senator (or call as many key Senators as possible). When you’re connected to their offices, ask to speak to the staff person who handles VAWA. Tell
them:

“Today is an important day, the Senator has the chance to protect all women, including Native women. It’s time to be a hero and pass a comprehensive VAWA – S.47 – including the tribal provisions and I urge
the Senator to vote NO on the Coburn Amendment. I urge you to support the Murkowski and Leahy Amendments.”

THANK YOU for helping us advance the protections of Native women across the Country. Your support is appreciated.

Buffy Sainte-Marie at Idle No More rally at MB Legislature
Hundreds were on the steps of the Manitoba Legislature Jan. 28th for an Idle No More rally that included Buffy Sainte-Marie. The evening ended with a round dance that stretched around the drive way of the Legislature and the statue of Queen Victoria.

Chief Theresa Spence shares with us on Make No Bones About It.

This is About Mother Earth!

Arvol

This is About Mother Earth!

As Keeper of our Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe, I would like to send out support for the efforts of Chief Theresa Spence of the Attawapiskat First Nation, for giving of herself through fasting with prayers for the protection of Mother Earth.

Throughout history, there have been many Voices from different Nations trying to alert us of the prophecies that are now upon us. We are in a time of Great Urgency, especially since the animals have been showing their sacred color white to tell us we need to change the Path we are on.

The war in the Middle East over money, oil and power, in the name of Spirituality, has been affecting us for far too long. A Healing now needs to happen from that lesson. Those lessons now exist in those territories in the lack of animal and plant life, as well as the many orphans and childless parents.

Political decision makers throughout history have made decisions that have affected many People, lands and animal/plant life, the recent decision made to subject Mother Earth and take away any protection she had left, is a decision that affects all humanity.

This effort has to be understood the same light of our Peace work, which is “All Nations, All Faiths, One Prayer”. This effort to protect Mother Earth is all Humanity’s responsibility, not just Aboriginal People. Every human being has had Ancestors in their lineage that understood their umbilical cord to the Earth, understanding the need to always protect and thank her. Therefore, all Humanity has to re-connect to their own Indigenous Roots of their lineage – to heal their connection and responsibility with Mother Earth and become a united voice.

In a Sacred Hoop Life, where there is no ending and no beginning!
