WASHINGTON – Chief Arvol Looking Horse and other American Indian leaders sent a letter on Friday to President Barack Obama urging him to meet face-to-face to discuss the United States responsiblities to Indigenous People relating to the Dakota Access pipeline.

The leaders write:

Under your authority, the United States is in the process of writing another disgraceful chapter in its history of relations with Indigenous Peoples.

Here is text of letter sent to President Obama:

November 11, 2016

The White House
Barack Obama
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington, DC 20500

President Barack Obama,

As spiritual leaders, elders, medicine people, we carry great responsibility for our Nations. We are not political people though we stand-up to politics to ensure the future. Unfortunately, this often includes our own people in political positions that are knowingly and willingly violating the Creator’s Natural Law. This Law guides all life and is the spiritual foundation held sacred by Indigenous Peoples around the world. Policies, procedures and laws created by the United States of America continue to hurt the Indigenous Peoples, our ways of life and the natural world. These laws, policies and procedures can be changed or amended what cannot change is our absolute dependence on Mother Nature.

As President, you have unprecedented access to the latest technological information and data from the scientific community. This vast amount of information provides you with tremendous knowledge. This information is confirming what Indigenous Peoples have been voicing since the arrival of Europeans. Knowledge without wisdom is unguided. Just as science without spirit has brought the people of the world to the brink of self-destruction.

It has been extremely difficult for Indigenous Peoples to be understood by those that make decisions based on money. We feel sorry for leaders, including those from Indigenous Peoples, who gamble with our future by making spiritually disconnected decisions. You, Barack Obama, when campaigning to become President of the United States met with one of our Councilman, Chief Arvol Looking Horse, 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred C’anupa (Pipe) Bundle of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nation.

You, Barack Obama, during this meeting with Chief Arvol Looking Horse indicated that you understood Treaties and would address the violations against our people. As Indigenous Peoples we take such words as your word. We recognize those that fulfill their words and those that do not. During your term you have been resistant to uphold your word by refusing to meet with the Aboriginal Indigenous Spiritual People of the Earth.

At Standing Rock, we have seen those that are gathering peaceably and prayerfully being met with unprecedented violence. Unarmed people including elders and children are being maced, beaten, shot, arrested, strip-searched and left unclothed in kennels meant for animals. To us that is elder and child abuse. As spiritual people we cannot sit and watch as those who claim to be upholding the law, repeatedly violate their own man-made laws. These contemptible actions must stop along with your Nations’ addiction to oil. The path to life and a healthy future requires this addiction to end. Under your authority, the United States is in the process of writing another disgraceful chapter in its history of relations with Indigenous Peoples.

The lack of inclusion of the Indigenous Spiritual People of the Earth is apparent and is reflected in the continued desecration and destruction of our ways of life, sacred places and Mother Earth. We are not intending to challenge you. Our people are peaceful people, we hold the ancient ways of healing and maintain the sacred knowledge of how to live in harmony with Mother Earth and All Creation. Common sense dictates that it is time to meet when those that are seeking protection for the sanctity of water are jailed while those willing to pollute it are protected. We are once again offering you the opportunity to fulfill your word and meet face-to-face. Your time in office is now short. Therefore, every day is critical. It provides you an opportunity to work with us to heal the future.

ALL LIFE IS SACRED. WE COME INTO LIFE AS SACRED BEINGS. WHEN WE ABUSE THE SACREDNESS OF LIFE WE AFFECT ALL CREATION

As spiritual people, we live by faith and belief in the Creator. We know you cannot fool the good spirit. We want to be very direct when addressing this addiction to fossil fuels. Simply re-routing a pipeline does not alter the damaging activities on either end of the pipe or the threat in-between. We urge all Nations and human beings around the world to unite with good minds and prayer as a global community of all faiths and continue to stand with us, the Caretakers of Mother Earth, to restore and uphold the Creator’s Natural Law as a foundation for all decision-making from this point forward.

Important Message from Keeper of Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe

559004_10151859592981887_38088706_n

I, Chief Arvol Looking Horse, of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota Nations, ask you to understand an Indigenous perspective on what has happened in America, what we call “Turtle Island.” My words seek to unite the global community through a message from our sacred ceremonies to unite spiritually, each in our ways of beliefs in the Creator.

We have been warned from ancient prophecies of these times we live in today, but have also been given a vital message about a solution to turn these terrible times.

To understand the depth of this message, you must recognize the importance of Sacred Sites and realize the interconnectedness of what is happening today, in the reflection of the continued massacres that are occurring on other lands and our own Americas.

I have been learning about these important issues since the age of 12 when I received the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe Bundle and its teachings. Our people have strived to protect Sacred Sites from the beginning of time. These places have been violated for centuries and have brought us to the predicament that we are in at the global level.

Look around you. Our Mother Earth is very ill from these violations, and we are on the brink of destroying the possibility of a healthy and nurturing survival for generations to come, our children’s children.

Our ancestors have been trying to protect our Sacred Site called the Sacred Black Hills of South Dakota, “Heart of Everything That Is,” from continued violations. Our ancestors never saw a satellite view of this site, but now that those pictures are available, we see that it is in the shape of a heart and, when fast-forwarded, it looks like a heart pumping.

The Diné have been protecting Big Mountain, calling it the liver of the earth, and we are suffering and going to suffer more from the extraction of the coal there and the poisoning processes used in doing so.

The Aborigines have warned of the contaminating effects of global warming on the Coral Reefs, which they see as Mother Earth’s blood purifier.

The indigenous people of the rainforest say that the rainforests are the lungs of the planet and need protection.

The Gwich’in Nation in Alaska has had to face oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain, also known to the Gwich’in as “Where life begins.”

The coastal plain is the birthplace of many life forms of the animal nations. The death of these animal nations will destroy indigenous nations in this territory.

As these destructive developments continue all over the world, we will witness much more extinct animal, plant, and human nations, because of humankind’s misuse of power and their lack of understanding of the “balance of life.”

The Indigenous people warn that these negative developments will cause havoc globally. There are many, many more original teachings and knowledge about Mother Earth’s Sacred Sites, her chakras, and connections to our spirit that will surely affect our future generations.

There needs to be a fast move toward other forms of energy that are safe for all Nations upon Mother Earth. We need to understand the types of minds that are continuing to destroy the spirit of our whole global community. Unless we do this, the powers of destruction will overwhelm us.

Our Ancestors foretold that water would someday be for sale. This Prophecy was hard to believe! The water was plentiful, pure,  full of energy, nutrition, and spirit. Today we have to buy clean water, and even then the nutritional minerals have been taken out; it’s just clear liquid. Someday water will be like gold, too expensive to afford.

Not everyone will have the right to drink safe water. We fail to appreciate and honor our Sacred Sites, ripping out the minerals and gifts that lay underneath them as if Mother Earth were simply a resource, instead of the source of life itself.

Attacking nations and using more resources to carry out destruction in the name of peace is not the answer! We need to understand how all these decisions affect the global nation; we will not be immune to its repercussions. Allowing continual contamination of our food and land is affecting the way we think.

A “disease of the mind” has set in world leaders and many members of our global community, with their belief that a solution of retaliation and destruction of peoples will bring peace.

In our Prophecies it is told that we are now at the crossroads: Either unites spiritually as a global nation or faced with chaos, disasters, diseases, and tears from our relatives’ eyes.

We are the only species that is destroying the source of life, meaning Mother Earth, in the name of power, mineral resources, and ownership of land. Using chemicals and methods of warfare that are doing irreversible damage, as Mother Earth is becoming tired and cannot sustain any more impacts of war.

I ask you to join me in this endeavor. Our vision is for the peoples of all continents, regardless of their beliefs in the Creator, to come together as one at their Sacred Sites to pray and meditate and commune with one another, thus promoting an energy shift to heal our Mother Earth and achieve a universal consciousness toward attaining Peace.

As each day passes, I ask all nations to begin a global effort and remember to give thanks for the pure food that has been gifted to us by our Mother Earth, so the nutritional energy of medicine can be guided to heal our minds and spirits.

This new millennium will usher in an age of harmony, or it will bring the end of life as we know it. Starvation, war, and toxic waste have been the hallmark of the vast myth of progress and development that ruled the last millennium.

To us, as caretakers of the heart of Mother Earth falls the responsibility of turning back the powers of destruction. You are the one who must decide.

You alone – and only you – can make this crucial choice, to walk in honor or to dishonor your relatives. On your decision depends the fate of the entire World.

Each of us is put here in this time and this place to personally decide the future of humankind.

Did you think the Creator would create unnecessary people in a time of such terrible danger?

Know that you are essential to this world. Understand both the blessing and the burden of that. You are desperately needed to save the soul of this world. Did you think you were put here for something less? In a Sacred Hoop of Life, there is no beginning and no ending.

Chief Arvol Looking Horse -Protecting the Sacred

Arvol Looking Horse:

Protecting the Sacred

Mitakuyape (relatives)!

We are now up against dangerous decisions that are coming from the disease of the mind. We are dealing with minds that hold no values of respect and honor toward another Nation’s Burials and Sacred Sites. Money has contaminated their minds to want the power to desecrate the sacredness of Mother Earth and allow my People’s burial places to be destroyed in order to continue to erase our culture.

As Keeper of this Spirit Bundle of my People, we as the Buffalo People – Pte Oyate, have been able to keep our ceremonies and way of life for 19 generations in tact, which every generation is 100 years. This Bundle has been with us for over 2000 years, which has guided us through massacres and hard times, even when it was hidden until the 1978 Freedom of Religion Act.

Tim Mentz –Tatanka Duta (Red Bull) and his family lineal knowledge are bound by this same woope – Creator’s Law. This knowledge is based on sacred oral history that dictates the word is sacred and stands in truth. Tim’s inherited knowledge is recognizing significant Sacred Sites and holds the same value for our People, as in my position, this is why I am able to carry an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of SD. We both have been raised with traditional knowledge with the responsibility to protect and carry, on behalf of our People. A person that earns a Degree can never attain that same knowledge we carry for our People. The Responsibility that we care for is passed down and learned through our oral history.

For this Oil Corporation to destroy what Tim Mentz, a cultural historical Tracker, identified as our Burial Mounds and Sacred Sites, is a violation to the UN Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This also violates United States’ own Treaty with our People. What has now been allowed to happen is a violation in the highest level of disrespect toward a Nation’s Ancestors. The support this Corporation has are Political Leaders who have given themselves the Power in their elected positions, to violate their own Laws they are supposed to uphold; as stated in their own US Constitution in how Religions are to be treated. Where are the Keepers of their values?

The hearts of All People’s faiths must now unite in believing we can change the path we are now on. We, from heart of Turtle Island, have a great message for the World to unite for our children’s future. Already we have witnessed many Nations of life are now dying because of contamination; those that swim, those that crawl, those that fly, the plant Nation, the four legged and now the two legged.

What we are being faced with is a dark spirit. All life cannot afford to allow the same mistakes to be made any longer, look what is happening to the four directions in the contamination of Mni Wic’oni – water of life. If we do not actively stand up as Leaders and do Creator’s work in uniting our concerns, it will continue to be a domino affect that our Ancestors have warned about in the Prophecies.

This is not a competition of who will lead and who should follow, this is a very serious time we are in. I know in my heart there are millions of People that feel this is long overdue. It is time that all of us become Leaders to help protect the sacred upon Mother Earth – she is the source of life and not a resource.

In a Sacred Hoop of Life, where there is no ending and no beginning.

An Important Message From Chief Arvol Looking Horse

A Call for United Prayer at Sacred Sites to Heal Mother Earth

This article is directly related to an unfolding battle taking place right now, with Native Americans in North Dakota gathered together to protect their sacred sites from an impending oil pipeline. The Standing Rock Sioux Nation has been joined by thousands of people making this protest the largest gathering of Native Americans in over 100 years. The contentious oil pipeline is a 4 billion dollar project that would disrupt a sacred burial ground and threaten water supplies. Thousands of people from across the U.S. and Canada have set up camp on the site and the cause has brought over 60 tribes together, reuniting the Great Sioux Nation. Chief Arvol Looking Horse, a spiritual leader of the Sioux Nation, is involved in the protection action.

I, Chief Arvol Looking Horse, of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota Nations, ask you to understand an Indigenous perspective on what has happened in America, what we call “Turtle Island.” My words seek to unite the global community through a message from our sacred ceremonies to unite spiritually, each in our own way.

To understand the depth of this message, you must recognize the importance of Sacred Sites and realize the interconnectedness of what is happening today, in reflection of the continued massacres that are occurring on other lands and our own Americas.

Recognizing the importance of Sacred Sites.

Since the Beginning of Time…

I have been learning about these important issues since the age of 12 when I received the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe Bundle and its teachings. World Peace and Prayer Day/Honoring Sacred Sites Day 2016

Maka akantula (People of the Earth),

My name is Nac’a Arvol Looking Horse founder of World Peace and Prayer Day and Honoring Sacred Sites Day, spiritual leader of the Lakota, Dakota, Nakota Sioux Nations, known as the Buffalo People.

I humbly ask People of the Earth to join together at your own sacred place of prayer, in the effort of healing our Ina Maka (Mother Earth) on June 21st.

For 20 years, People heard the great calling to follow their spirit and helped bring attention to Ina Maka’s Sacred Sites around the world, All Nations, All Faiths, One Prayer. Wopila (a great thank you) to each and every one of you that made a difference creating that sacred circle in your territory. I would also like to take this time to acknowledge the People who are making sacrifices, either through walking, riding in sacred Horse Rides or running, to bring attention to the atrocities and preserve what we have left for our children’s children.

When the Elders passed the Sacred Bundle to me to care for on behalf of the People, they told me of the warning that came from Pte San Win (White Buffalo Calf Woman) 19 generations ago. She left a prophecy that when animals are born white, it would be a sign of a blessing, but this sign would be a symbol of opportunity to change the path of destruction to all life that we would be on. I thought that this would not be in my lifetime. The birth of the white buffalo calf Miracle in 1994 and all the white animals that stood upon the earth since that time are messages that we can no longer ignore. We have always known that man has gone too far, even scientifically this sad truth has been shared of earth and climate changes.

Children are now being born with great sickness, just as the Elders told us would happen. Water is now contaminated throughout the world, the blood of our Mother Earth. The power of Woc’ekiya, which means kiya to send, c’aya to cry (prayer) has to be done with great intention of great Unity, this is what has brought us through many hard times. It is time for this understanding to take place on a global scale.

We are asking all People of the Earth to help create this energy shift by making the Woc’ekiya stronger by going to your own Sacred Site or place of your Faith on June 21st, to join together to pray for the healing of the World’s Sacred Waters. This year, I will be joining you while attending a traditional ceremony, many prayers are going out to protect our mni wic’oni, our water of life.

I sincerely ask for Unity on behalf of all life upon Mother Earth to heal and all life to come. It is time all People understand Mother Earth is the Source of life, not a resource.

In a Sacred Hoop of Life, where there is no ending and no beginning.
